CANON DC230 MANUAL

Canon is expanding its offering of camcorders directly to DVD, enlarging consumer choice with two new entry-level models. The Canon DC230 DVD ready camcorders are equipped with a powerful 35x optical zoom lens and DIGIC DV II, 1 the most powerful Canon video image processor, originally designed for High Definition recording (HD). The user-friendly range of features includes a Quick Start button and an intuitive menu system, which is easy to navigate with a "Joystick" controller. Both camcorders offer additional functionality with digital still pictures, with Canon DC230 recording on disc or on the memory card. The Canon DC230 is equipped with a megapixel CCD sensor.

The Canon DC230 let consumers benefit from the incredible precision of Canon's 35x optical zoom lens, which sets a new benchmark standard at this market level. The user is free to zoom in on distant subjects without compromising image quality. Unwanted vibrations, especially noticeable at full zoom, are reduced by an electronic image stabilizer (EIS). A 1,000x digital zoom is also available. Each camcorder is optimized for true wide-screen recording in high resolution. A large 2.7-inch LCD and a 0.27-inch 16: 9 color EVF (electronic viewfinder) allow users to compose and view their shots in the dimensions that will be displayed on a widescreen TV. Finalizing the DVD in the camcorder is only a formality before it can be played back by a compatible DVD player. Both camcorders can also be switched to standard 4: 3 recording mode.

Designed for true one-handed shooting, the controls are optimally positioned on the camcorder housing. The Joystick on the back of the camera is placed within reach of the thumb and is used to easily select a wide range of shooting features. Another innovation, both camcorders are equipped with the new Quick Start Canon. After switching on, most camcorders require several seconds before being ready to record. However, with the Quick Start function, the camcorder switches to Recording mode almost immediately. Simply pressing the dedicated Quick Start button allows the camcorder to stay in Standby mode and save battery power. Pressing the button again is enough for the camcorder to be ready to record in about a second. Quick Start allows the user to record events that might otherwise be missed, such as a child's first steps or a winning goal.

DIGIC DV II has made its appearance on the flagship of the range of Canon HD camcorders, the XL H1. Designed to support the very high data flow associated with High Definition, this ultra-fast image processor is now available on camcorders from the entire Canon range. The DIGIC DV II processor incorporates sophisticated noise reduction technology for sharper, higher-quality images. It also provides very faithful colors, which are both lively and shimmering on screen. With separate channel processing, video and photo signals are supported separately for optimal color reproduction. On the Canon DC230, DIGIC DV II also allows video recording and simultaneous capture of photographs on a memory card without loss of quality.
