With the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS, Canon presents the successor model of the Superzoom camera SX10 IS. In addition to an innovative car mode, fully manual adjustment options and a 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) large rotating and swiveling PureColor LCD leave plenty of scope for creative ideas. 720p HD movie clips can now be recorded using optimized movie mode. Sometimes you just have to be very close. The PowerShot SX20 IS has a 28 mm wide-angle lens with 20x optical zoom: the immense KB-equivalent focal range from 28 mm to 560 mm gives the Quantum a flexible freedom, which is then desired for the image composition. Ideal for discreet use and ease of use: The lens uses an ultrasonic motor (USM) and voice coil motor (VCM) for fast and quiet zooming. This predestines the wide angle camera for natural and sports photos.

Picture quality is guaranteed with the PowerShot SX20 IS: The 12.1-megapixel image sensor captures every subject in detail and precise, the DIGIC-4 image processor ensures high image quality with natural color reproduction, fast response, and optimized noise reduction. The ultimate guarantee for brilliant images is the optical image stabilizer, which minimizes camera shake. Shots are possible with a shutter speed of up to four exposure levels. This is ideal in unfavorable lighting conditions, for example, indoor or night shots without flash. The PureColor LC-Display, which is 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in size, provides the right vision for the PowerShot SX20 IS and is suitable for flexible image composites in many shooting situations. Thanks to Auto mode, the PowerShot SX20 IS can be easily photographed. Scene Detection technology analyzes the subject in terms of people, distance, brightness, and color. The Canon Face Detection technology is available for attractive subjects: up to 35 faces are detected in the subject and the settings are optimized for it. This works even when the people are moved to the camera. Face Detection AF/AE/FE includes red-eye correction and a self-timer with face detection. A face can be defined as the main motif by means of facial selection and tracking. 

The PowerShot SX20 IS corrects motion shake when moving motifs by Motion Detection Technology and Servo AF/AE: In this setting, the user defines the main motif for which the camera then continuously adjusts sharpness and exposure. The autofocus for continuous shots adjusts the sharpness between the shots. The innovative i-Contrast technology ultimately optimizes the brightness only in too dark, correction-requiring passages without changing the overall brightness of the image.
